Nicole & Derek {Flushing Meadows Park Engagement Photos}

I met Derek through a close friend and badgered him about my wedding photography over a few drinks one night. Ironically, I didn’t even know that he was engaged. A few weeks later I got an e-mail from Derek asking if I was free to meet with him and Nicole to discuss photography. He also asked if I was okay around giant dogs. I said yes and so began an awesome relationship with two very cool people and one amazing, albeit gigantic dog. Alas, I never got to photograph the puppy at the engagement shoot, but I’m hoping he might be the ring bearer.

Derek and Nicole were amazing to photograph. The two didn’t blink at a single idea I had and were so happy to spend an afternoon just relaxing and taking photos. We made our way to the stadium (she works for MLB and he loves MLB) and begged the guy at the gate to let us in for a few shots. After a quick phone call we got a few minutes to grab the first photo and the day was off to a fun start. I have to be honest, I’ve never been to Flushing Meadows Park. More to the point, I didn’t even know that the World’s Fair was in Queens (I thought it was in Long Island), so I was completely floored when I pulled into the lot at the nearby science museum and saw these massive, weather-worn monuments nestled right by Shea (cough, Citi Field) Stadium.

Allison and I spent a lovely Fall afternoon working our way through the park and photographing the couple while admiring the World’s Fair relics and swore we would come back in the Spring. I’m so stoked to photograph their wedding in March—Spring can’t come soon enough.
