I truly believe there is such a thing as kindred spirits; people that you just click with on a level beyond day-to-day acquaintances or so-called friends. That’s certainly how I felt when I first met Lauren and Keith. At their consultation, Keith walked us through his incredible engagement, featuring a Game of Thrones-inspired proposal on a handwritten scroll with a wax seal of his family’s crest. Allison and I were giddy at the prospect of photographing a couple as geeky as we were and just as obsessed with George R.R. Martin’s legendary novels. We were also happy that “The Rains of Castamere” didn’t play at their engagement party.
While we couldn’t pull off a Game of Thrones-themed engagement session (HBO wouldn’t sign off on us using one of the sets), we did choose a surreal location in Central Jersey (not a figment of our imagination) at Grounds for Sculpture. We spent hours traipsing along the endless paths of abstract art and strange statues, stopping regularly to capture a moment on film and wax philosophical on the greatness of Breaking Bad. The two had no problem posing in front of any artwork, no matter how odd or unique (see baby heads in plastic box below). By the end of the three hour journey we were all fast friends, and I would be proud to go into any battle with Keith and Lauren if they ever wanted to start a rebellion. I can’t wait to see what exciting adventures their wedding day holds.
