When I talk to couples about locations for their engagement portraits, I make it clear that the backdrop is not what makes the photos great — it’s the love and emotion that the couple share. But I’m willing to make an exception for Lynnette and Scott’s Storm King engagement photos. The massive sculpture garden in New Windsor, New York inspires creativity and easily serves as a stunning outdoor studio for an engagement session. I recently spent a long afternoon with the couple, walking through acres of the park’s rolling fields and creating the beautiful images you see in this post.
We had a blast working large-scale artwork, such as Zhang Huan’s “Evoking Tradition” into non-traditional portraits. You can imagine how easy it is to contrast love with a monstrous two-story sculpture of a three-legged Buddha, but I think we pulled it off. It also helped that I had two artists to share in the excitement and that were willing to entertain my silly ideas in the name of art and fun.
